So I realised that nothing has been done with this community in months and months, and that this is mostly my fault as I am shitty at, y'know, actually making an effort to get this community off the ground.

So. We all read slash, and presumably we all do it because we enjoy it, even if there are other reasons as well. I guess what I'm going for here is a sort of fandom poll:

What made you read slash in the first place? Did you just kind of think, "Oh, what the hell?" Or were there other reasons?

What don't you read? I, for instance, don't often read things where I know there isn't going to be a happy ending; I often click the back button as soon as I realise that the characters aren't going to get a happily-ever-after (or are placed in a position where such a thing is impossible). So, what things do you avoid in fanfiction?

And, finally, if you've ever left a fandom, how and why?

I just wanted to drop by and say that if anyone's interested in seeing Hitchhiker's this Thursday, a few of us are going along to the Reading Cinemas for the 6.30pm show. I'm terribly sorry for the short notice, the schedules only came out yesterday, but if anyone can make it, that would be awesome.

Cheers. :)

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy meet-up. Apr. 14th, 2005 @ 10:37 am

Hi. I was just wondering is there is any interest in having a Wellington meet-up for Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy when it comes out on the 28th of April. So far I don't know session times, Reading Cinemas won't release theirs until the 25th, and I'm not sure about anywhere else, but I'm still looking. I'm curious to see who was interested and what times would be good. So, what do you think?

Cheers. :D

I was wondering who in this community is planning to attend iCon, the national science fiction convention at Easter this year, having just registered myself. I was also wondering who needs accomodation, since I can probably fit some people in my lounge.

Schism Jan. 17th, 2005 @ 11:57 pm

Schism is a online comic - well, graphic novel, really. It's original, oh, so slashy and beautifully drawn. Also, the artist makes good use of her online media and some pages require flash to work correctly.

As of yet it's still incomplete, but the author updates it every Monday (and sometimes it's even Monday in New Zealand!) and while it's been really good the whole way through, the sheer slashiness is starting to come through. New today was page 9 of chapter 7.

The world it's set in is kinda hard to describe. It's almost post-apocalyptic, only the apocalypse wasn't the Buffy sort of apocalypse. Rather, it's set in a future where computers are really really advanced and it got to the stage where everyone was wireless. And then the schism happened. Something went wrong and all the computers crashed. As a result, computer and 'net usage are tightly controlled by the government. And just about everyone seems to have a white stripe across their hair. I'm not sure why as it's doesn't seem to be because of light.

That's the world in a very small nutshell. I'd try and explain the plot, but it isn't finished yet and things are still being explained. And I couldn't explain anything that has already happened without giving things away.

I cannot recommend this comic highly enough. Crossposted to redlinen

Okay. So we're studying The Merchant of Venice, and I desperately, desperately need to know: Antonio/Bassanio. OMG so much slash. Even academics slash them, according to my English teacher. (Okay, so she actually said that some people would suggest that "Bassanio and Antonio were having a homosexual relationship," but isn't that practically the same thing? :D) So.. I just HAVE to know where I can find some. :p recs, anyone?

An ickle 13-year-old newbie called Caryl! The horror!

As fandoms go, I've moved on really quickly over the years. I started out in the fanfiction world when I was about ten, in Pokémon and Digimon (yes, I know). Wandering the vast expanse of Digimon fanfiction that is FanFiction.Net, I soon ran into slash there. I wasn't a fan of it, but I wasn't an "OMGSLASHNOOOO!!!1!eleven!!!!" hater either. I read it if the plot sounded good. While I did dip into HP, I was never that active a Harry Potter fanfic reader/writer, so no takers there.

Three years later, I'm avoiding most fanfiction by sheer coincidence. I am, however, one of those freaks of nature who writes Idol slash. Yes! Idol! That crap pop factory franchise show! That one, which here cranked out our very own mostly-hairless Idol, oh yeah, and that scrawny kid with chronic bedhair!

Yes, I write slash about said mostly-hairless Idol and scrawny kid with chronic bedhair. Ben Lummis and Michael Murphy that is. I've finished one story about them so far. It's apparently very good. It's also frightfully long so I won't post it except on the off-chance someone wants to read it.

Goodbye, from the ickle wellyslash newbie!

Found a link to a good novel length original slash story yesterday. I enjoyed it so I thought I would pass it on.

Fandom: Original
Title: The God-Eaters
Author: Chartreuse
Rating: NC-17
Status: Complete
Summary: Two outlaws (one of whom really just gets dragged along for the ride) take on the totalitarian Theocracy in a bleak story with some really interesting twists along the way.

Comments: Took me a little while to get into this fic. However, by the end of page two or three (and each page has about four or five chapters on it) I was hooked and persisted in reading until the very end, despite my increasing tiredness. And then I went back and reread a couple of bits. It is very long - it took me a few hours, so unless you read very fast, don't sit down at this one unless you have ages to spend reading. I just want to post my absolute love for this fic:

Dr Jackson's Diary.

Stargate SG-1, Jack/Daniel, Daniel/Paul (kinda, it's not OTP), and I can't think of any other fics which so consistently make me laugh out loud. Think, georgous, caffine-addicted, neurotic, supra-intelligent linguist-archaeologist does Brigit Jones' diary.

I love it. So happy I found it again.

I keep on sniggering or squeeing and having to read bits outloud to maudlinrose.

Favourite quote (among many): "Stop twisting my words, you...you...linguist!"

I was not at parliament today to see Destiny Church march against the Civil Union Bill.. >.< But I heard Georgina Beyer refer to it as reminiscient of a Nazi rally, which I pooh-pooed as hysteria and unhelpful. Then beagl popped up saying

"You weren't there - it *did* feel like a Nazi rally.

How else do you interpret lines and lines of blackshirted men chanting "Enough is Enough" and punching their fists in the air in a near parody of a Nazi salute?"
and giving these photos he took.

I take his point. if you feel the same, please, pass these photos on to other kiwi LJs or LJ comms you may be part of. I, personally, oppose Destiny Church and believe them to be proponents of hate and bigotry. Enough, my darlings, is indeed enough. And I've had it. Destiny church has a right to express their views. But I believe their method of doing so tells us something about their group. And I want to do something.

X-posted everyhere; I'm sorry about that.
